Reply with quote | #1 | Right chaps, let me pick your brains. My Super six has develped a knocking that only happens when going around left hand corners. It feels like it is coming up from the steering column but obviously isn't as I have checked it all and nothing is loose, no bearing issues and the track rod ends are okay etc. It doesn't affect the handling and the car before I took i off the road did not have any issues with the trailing arms and the spax shockers also appear to be okay My dad said something about the constant velocity (something) in the rear axle could be the issue and then gave me a technical talk about what it does but I can't remember. Has anyone else had the same issue and if so, what was it, and is it relatively easy to sort out. Cheers Dave |

Reply with quote | #2 | hi mate,
yeh your dad is talking about a cv joint, if one of them has gone it will give you a knocking when cornering. dunno about a six, but my cat has had the same problem and it was both sides so i just renewed both shafts and it was sorted. depends on how handy your are, if you know where to look or what to check really. i jacked the back end of mine up, put it on stands grabed both driveshafts and gave them a good ragging and found both joints on both shafts were buggered, you need to endure you check both cv joints on each shaft! hope this helps

Reply with quote | #3 | Hi Dave Have you checked the clearance between the alternator and steering column. When turning left it may just move over enough to tap on the column. John |

Reply with quote | #4 | Dave,
Your six has a live axle so no CV joint. The Cat does have a CV joint attached to its Sierra indy axle/diff arrangement.

Reply with quote | #6 | As John said, its worth checking your alternator adjustment. Although on the Super Six it wont be rubbing on the steering column, it will be up against the chassis. Just slacking off the belt a little will cure it if that is what it is.

Reply with quote | #7 | diff knocking on the chassis near the tunnel?
if you look under the car, look along the diff towards the prop, it can get very close to the chassis rails on the rear bulkhead, close to the area behind the drivers seat (i think)
maybe under cornering one way the axle is moving relative to the chassis a bit?
worth a look.... __________________ Cheers,

Reply with quote | #8 | I had this problem. It was alternator knocking on chassis. Shorter belt cured it. __________________ Ross
